Cheverny – Blue

This original vintage poster by E. Paul Champseix (18901983) showcases the Chteau de Cheverny in the Loire Valley, a masterpiece of 17th-century French classical architecture. The composition is framed by vibrant autumn foliage, with Champseix skillfully capturing the harmony between the chteaus symmetrical design and its natural surroundings. The bold use of warm reds, oranges, and yellows contrasts elegantly with the cool tones of the chteaus stone facade, creating a scene that is both majestic and inviting.
Commissioned by the SNCF, this poster was part of a mid-20th-century campaign encouraging travel to France’s historic landmarks. The art reflects the optimism and cultural pride of post-war France, a period when travel posters were both functional advertisements and stunning works of art. Champseix, known for his dynamic compositions and refined attention to detail, created a series of works for the SNCF, each celebrating the beauty of French heritage.
